Firefighters Battle Blaze at Fairlawn Street Home in Malden

Firefighters battled a fire at a Fairlawn Street home Tuesday night in Malden.

Malden Fire battled a blaze at a Fairlawn Street home Tuesday night in Malden.

Shortly after 5 p.m. Nov. 5, firefighters responded to 35 Fairlawn St. for a report of a ceiling fire on the second floor, according to Deputy Fire Chief Leonard Dunn III.

"Firefighters stretched a hose line to the second floor bedroom and used plaster hooks to pull the ceiling down and access the fire," Dunn said. "The fire was knocked down quickly, with smoke and water damage to (the) second floor.

"The fire appears to have started in an electrical fixture in the ceiling."

No one was injured during the fire, according to Dunn.

While firefighters were tackling the fire on Fairlawn Street, there were three other emergency calls—two medical and one false alarm—in the city which left the fire department without fire engine coverage until Everett and Medford Fire Departments could respond to cover the central and west side stations, according to the Dunn.

Firefighters cleared the Fairlawn Street scene around 6:45 p.m., according to Dunn.
