By darmyman's logic, we should all be able to violently abuse anyone for any reason, so long as we personally felt hurt by an event at another time in another place. So we can all "live and let live"... in fear.

This deeply saddens me. I hope the Malden Police are able to pull video footage from nearby businesses to ID this maniac and, when caught, I hope the courts are able prosecute him as the terrorizing hate criminal that he is.

Gene, Wynn's model shows a forest behind the casino. Are you telling me this doesn't exist?? Ha!
Angled correctly, the view won't be the absolute worst from the casino if you consider the impact close to $3 billion in private investment has on an area. I'm counting the ~1+ billion Assembly Row project that is renovating the wide swath from Assembly Mall to Sullivan and, of course, the casino itself that will have a beautified peninsula and marina.
$200/night for a Wynn room might be the cheapest in his worldwide portfolio. You'll see another hotel pop-up closeby (possibly Malden) offering marginally lower rates, with most guests staying to visit Boston, the casino, conventions, or (hey!) the Field of Dreams.

You're right -- having no jobs is better than having minimum wage jobs. Care to provide backup for your claim that "most" casino jobs are minimum wage? Are you working under the assumption that all dealer, accounting, legal, security, banking, and cash room staff will be minimum wage? Interesting. Sure, there are low wage earners in the janitorial and restaurant segments of a casino, for example, but I can assure you that there are also a substantial number of employees that do quite well.

Chris, you are most certainly incorrect. The casino would be built on the old Monsanto plot, which is between Target and Sullivan Station. In other words, it's across the street from the power plant on lower Broadway. It's not close to Wellington, nor is it over any bridge from Wellington.
Take the Orange Line and you'll see the plot as you pass between the new Assembly Row station and Sullivan. It's across the river, just past the other commuter rail tracks.

I would close Pleasant St from Washington St to City Hall, and then have the tents setup along Pleasant St through to City Hall Plaza. It would be on a weekend afternoon, not a Monday night.

ReplyMalden should really have an outdoor food festival during warmer weather. It would be similar to the festivals held in Harvard Square. Each restaurant gets a tent and offers sample-sized fare for people to test. In Harvard, people pay by the sample, but this could have people buy a ticket booklet for $20-30 to enter the festival. Each ticket would allow 1 sample from each restaurant. You could shut the end of Pleasant St and have this in the street / on the plaza. Throw a couple band stands and a few non-food, non-music entertainment options in there and it would be a massive hit for all involved.

Try calling one of these salons on a weekend and you'll discover that all are booked, booked, booked in Malden. Knowing that, I wouldn't say this is bad business sense. There's a reason we have so many service businesses like this and it's because they're profitable and stay open.
