Michael, when Stop and Shop came into Malden, part fo the arrangement was that they would by out the old Mal's Supermarket, which as then located at that point on the site that some people refer to as "Super Fitness" site. If Stop and Shop owned the property as well, they must have sold the site, which is now owned by Combined Properties.

Part of the complex is located in Malden, according to the Assessor's database. The legal street address is 5 Island Hill Ave. There are 45 units located on the Malden side, with an assessed value of $21million and generating about $311K in property taxes annually to the City of Malden.

ReplyInteresting article. Henry Grant Weston was my great great grandfather. According to his own words, in 1861 he listed and was part of the band of the 19th Mass Regiment. He was discharged after contracting malaria. In 1862, he relisted with the Company G, Woburn Mechanix Phlanx, 5th Regiment Massachusetts Infantry. He was mustered out of service in July 1863. he relisted again with Gilmore's celebrated band of Boston, which was attached to First Division, Second Corps, Army of the Potomic under Gen Francis Barlow.
It is interesting that you bring up Somerville in relation to my family. According our records, HGW's father, Henry Weston(no middle name) lived in Somerville(I believe the Teele SQ area).

I agree with Liana's idea about the express train. I recently wrote to the T about using the third track between Community College and Wellington for express trains in the evening commute northbound. So far no response. I also suggested to T management about getting free access to the Commuter Rail during times that the Orange Line was out of service. Before the T went to the Charlie Card and Ticket system, the old passes were valid on the Commuter rail from North Station to Malden Center.

Yes Mike, that how the economy works, and that is how you create economic growth. People with higher incomes have higher level of discretionary spending. namely they more money left over after paying for their housing, transporation etc., so they have the means to go out more often.
