ReplyCharlie, I noticed that you mentioned that the Governor's Council relates to public safety. Can you elaborate on how it relates to public safety and what related skills and experience you bring to the table? Thanks!

The Governor's Council approves judges, and judges affect the laws in this state. Our state could be different if we had had different judges and justices when issues like same-sex marriage and aspects of Massachusetts' universal health care law came in front of the judiciary. Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Massachusetts_Governor's_Council) tells me that Councilors made $26,025 each in 2008. And of course local boards make changes in towns, but if Tom Sheff wanted to run for a local board, I presume he would do that instead.
You're free to start a blog on Patch, as well, just as Tom Sheff did, and outline your opposition to the Governor's Council (or write on any subject you want). Just go to your Patch home page, scroll down below the 1 big picture and 3 small ones, click "Start a Blog," then "Post on Patch" and follow the directions from there. You may find that lots of people -- maybe even me -- would agree with you once you lay out your argument with facts, figures, and alternate proposals.

Thanks for commenting, MainSt. Resident. I hear you that you don't want money wasted -- neither do I -- but I'm wondering who you think should handle the approval and removal of public notaries and justices of the peace, the nominations of judges, and the issuance of any pardons and commutations if not the Governor's Council?

Thanks for commenting Earnhardt, but I'm not sure I follow. Can you comment with the links to the articles you've found that show the Governor ignores the advice of the Council, or that the Governor's Council doesn't have other duties that they need strong candidates for? Thanks!

ReplyTo pick your brain, if you'll allow me the luxury: What advice would you give to an individual who wanted to invest in solar/green technologies but was worried after seeing all these companies go bust?

ReplyI like that you've taken the time to give kudos to the DPW. You're right, without sanitation and snowplows this would be a very, very different world we live in!
