How Much Snow Will Malden Get Tuesday?

A messy wintry mix will slam Massachusetts starting Monday night and lasting through the day on Tuesday.

It'll be a tough commute on Tuesday morning, as yet another storm blows through Malden and Massachusetts starting Monday night and lasting throughout the following day. The current forecast from the National Weather Service (NWS) says Malden will see 3 to 7 inches of snow: 2 to 4 inches falling Monday night, and another 1 to 3 inches on Tuesday morning. The storm could switch between rain and snow—with the rain quickly freezing over on roadways—before becoming all rain after 1 p.m. on Tuesday, which should see a high temperature of 38 degrees. The wind could also gust at high as 40 miles per hour. Rain and snow showers will continue into the evening hours on Tuesday, according to the NWS, which issued a Winter Storm Warning in effect from …

Residents are asked to do their best to clear the streets of vehicles to allow for a smooth plowing operation.

Malden officials anticipate that Saturday night's storm will not be declared a snow emergency, according to the city's official Twitter feed. Total accumulation should be in the 3-6 inches range.  Residents are asked to do their best to clear the streets of vehicles to allow for a smooth plowing operation. Sanders were headed out on Saturday afternoon to pre-treat roads before the storm picked up.  More information is available on the city's Winter Weather Central site.

Roads Getting Slick, Forecast Worsens for Malden

Storm is making a stronger push to the north and west.

What had been forecast to be a moderate winter storm for Malden and the Greater Boston area is beginning to pickup momentum and could wind up packing a pretty good wallop. The latest forecast from the National Weather Service is now calling for Malden and the surrounding area to get 4-8 inches of snow. Snow is expected to continue through the night and a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until Sunday at 7 a.m. Visibility on the roads is limited and fog is expected to roll in around midnight to 2 a.m. making it worse. The low temperature tonight will be around 28 degrees. There will also be steady north winds overnight between 16 and 20 mph. The snow may initially be mixed with rain near the coast, according to the National Weather …

Hurricane Sandy's Local Wrath Expected Monday Morning

When will Hurricane Sandy hit Massachusetts? The large storm is tracking to make her effects felt here starting Monday morning.

The latest forecasts show Hurricane Sandy hitting before the morning commute Monday, with high wind and flood watches in effect from Monday morning through the night. The National Weather Service issued the warnings for Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire. WHDH's Jeremy Reiner said the worst of Sandy should be from 9 a.m. Monday until 2 a.m. Tuesday. "Within this period is our greatest risk of wind damage/power loss," Reiner wrote on his blog, noting that many towns will experience wind gusts over 40 miles per hour. Coastal cities and towns may see wind gusts between 50-60 mph and even some wind gusts near 70 mph out on the Cape and Islands. Reiner said the speed of the wind isn't as great a concern as the duration of the wind, …

Gov. Patrick: Hoping For Best, Planning For Worst

Gov. Deval Patrick declared a state of emergency on Saturday afternoon, saying that the path of Hurricane Sandy, which is tracking north, could hit Sunday night and linger into Wednesday.

Gov. Deval Patrick has declared a state of emergency and held a press conference Saturday afternoon to update to the public about how Massachusetts is preparing for the impact of Hurricane Sandy. Sandy is currently a category 1 hurricane rolling up the Atlantic and is expected to turn northwest on Sunday afternoon. Impact on New England from the storm is expected by Sunday night and could linger until Wednesday. "While we continue to hope for the best, we are planning for the worst," Patrick said. UPDATED: Hurricane Sandy Downgraded, Then Upgraded Again

Sandy diminished in intensity last night but has picked up this morning, as Massachusetts keeps an eye on the potential 'Frankenstorm' path that's currently tracking up the eastern seaboard.

Update, 8:20 a.m. Saturday: According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association (NOAA), Sandy has been upgraded again to a hurricane, just hours after being downgraded to a tropical storm.  In an 8 a.m. bulletin, the NOAA reported an Air Force aircraft found hurricane-strength winds again. Earlier, in its 5 a.m. bulletin, the NOAA issued warnings and watches to the Southeastern parts of the country, including Florida, but said those up the Eastern seaboard need to prepare for its impact. The storm is moving North-Northeast at 10 mph and an increase in intensity and speed possible tonight and Sunday, according to the NOAA. Sandy is currently considered to be "very large," with winds extending as far as 450 miles from its center. …

Flood Watch In Effect Through Tonight

The National Weather Service warned that up to 3 to 5 inches of rain could fall in some areas across the region today, leading to overflowing rivers and streams, and flooding in poor drainage areas.

Malden and much of southeast New England is under a flood watch issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) on Monday morning. The NWS said that 1-3 inches of rain is expected across the flood watch area today, but "the potential exists for some areas to receive 3-5 inches of rain," which would result in sharp rises in rivers and streams. "A few rivers may approach or even exceed bankfull today," the NWS statement said. "In addition, flooding of urban and poor-drainage areas is likely." Much of the heavier rain on Monday fell in Connecticut and Rhode Island, according to NWS SKYWARN reports. In Massachusetts, as of 10:50 a.m. more than 2 inches have fallen in communities in the western and central part of the state, including Worcester, …
