Verizon Employees Strike Outside Main Street Office

Spokesman says the union is protesting onerous demands imposed by management.

Unionized employees from both the Communication Workers of America and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers began the first day of a strike against Verizon Communications Monday, after what they described as “onerous” conditions were allegedly imposed onto the negotiations by the telecommunications giant. In Malden, about 10 to 15 CWA members stood outside of the Verizon offices on Main Street to picket. Other members followed replacement workers around on their service routes, aiming to picket the workers at each stop on their workday. “You're a loser!” one striker yelled with an accompanying “L” hand gesture as a Verizon truck drove by.
