Miss Tuesday's public meetings? Here's a round-up of the major discussions: Public Safety Committee meets with Fire Chief as union members watch: Fire Chief Michael Murphy urged councilors on the board to support a department request for more hires under a federal grant program aimed at retaining public safety personnel. The department is already authorized to hire ten firefighters back after lay-offs last year, bringing their number of responders to 114. But the chief said there is more money available in the grant, and that the department has long requested 121 firefighters to meet national safety standards. He also noted the city could use a new ladder truck to replace a model nearing the end of its operational life after about 15 years…
