Local Heroes Celebrates Another Milestone Day Veterans Day is still a few days away. But on Wednesday, one group of Wilmington residents found a way to thank troops for their service, just as they do every week at the same time. Local Heroes, which celebrated its eighth anniversary on November 3, packed its 16,000thpackage on Wednesday night during their weekly trip to Knights of Columbus to pack boxes for troops serving overseas. “Humbling,” said Local Heroes founder Lou Cimaglia. “It’s been an amazing show of support. Cat May Have Saved Woman's Life in Monday Morning Winter Hill Fire: A woman who fell asleep on the couch with a cigarette was woken up by her cat early Monday morning, moments before her apartment was engulfed in flames, according to Deputy Chief Jim Luccia of the Somerville Fire Department. The woman made it out of the apartment and was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital for some smoke inhalation, Luccia said. Firefighters Punished for Failing to Respond to Fatal 911 Call Three firefighters and a fire alarm operator have been punished after the Medford Fire Department failed to respond to a 911 call on July 13 that involved a fatality, according to a press release from the city. The fire alarm operator involved contacted three on-duty firefighters through their personal radios, but not with another communications system he was supposed to use, and the three firefighters had their personal radio volume too low to hear the dispatch, according to the release, according to the press release. Two Prisoners Escaped Holding Facility in North Reading: Around 7:17 a.m. Monday morning, two prisoners being held before their arraignment escaped from the North Reading Police Department holding facility, police said. The two prisoners, originally arrested on Saturday on charges of heroin possession, "were able to take advantage of a breach in the locking mechanism of the holding cell door that allowed them to escape," police said in a recent press release.
