The Melrose Board of Aldermen approved Monday night the adoption of a new state law that gives cities and towns the option to allow restaurants to serve alcoholic beverages starting at 10 a.m. Before the law changed last year, Massachusetts restaurants couldn't serve alcohol before noon on Sundays. Melrose restaurants that currently have a full liquor license or beer and wine license can't start serving booze on Sunday mornings right away. First, they need approval from the Melrose …

The trap that yielded the positive West Nile test is located on the Melrose/Stoneham line. The Melrose pool is one of 175 pools statewide that have tested positive this summer for WNV and 48 for EEE. There have been no cases of either disease thus far this year in humans or animals. Alleged Three-Time Melrose Eastern Bank Robber Arrested: A man arrested by Saugus Police yesterday on outstanding warrants allegedly implicated himself in the three recent Eastern Bank robberies after a bank teller identified him in a photo, according to Melrose PoliceChief Mike Lyle. Joseph Decareau of Saugus was arrested on Wednesday by Saugus Police on warrants, Lyle said. Meanwhile, Melrose Police detectives included a photo of Decareau in a photo array shown to bank employees, which Lyle said led to a teller identifying Decareau as the person who robbed Eastern Bank on Main Street last Friday. Melrose 21-Year-Old Dies From Reported Overdose: A 21-year-old Melrose man died from a reported drug overdose on Friday evening during a week in which Melrose Police responded to three reported overdoses. At 8 p.m. on Friday, July 15, Melrose Police received a report of a 21-year-old on the floor at a Clinton Road home from a possible overdose. Melrose firefighters and police officers responded and reported a sudden death on the scene. Melrose Police Lt. Mark DeCroteau said the death is under investigation by the Massachusetts State Police and the state Medical Examiner's office. He declined to comment on …
