The applicant said it was a party for a Haitian church.
An official from Temple Tifereth said a party organizer lied to temple members about who he was and the type of party he intended to throw Saturday night. A Malden teenager was stabbed outside the temple at the conclusion of the party. “We believe we were, to a substantial degree, misled,” said Jordan Shapiro, Temple Financial Secretary and former Malden City Solicitor. “We are investigating internally. We’ve called a meeting of the executive board of the temple to discuss what happened and how we can avoid this moving forward.” Shapiro said the applicant said he was from Eglise Philadelphia Church, a Haitian Seventh-Day Adventist church off of Main Street. Posts on YouTube, social media confirm teenagers were trying to recreate wild movie party Saturday night. A 17-year-old male was stabbed as party-goers exited the venue.
A teenager stabbed Saturday night may have been trying to get into or just leaving a party inspired by a recent movie. Malden teenagers on various social media outlets described the Saturday night gathering as a “Project X” party, referring to a recent film about a wild high school house party. Malden users described the party as a ticketed event that was advertised well in advance. While some expressed excitement for the event, others were quick to mock the idea of a movie-based party. Twitter searches for “Project X Malden, “Malden Stabbed” and “Party Malden” return dozens of references to the Saturday night party.
