Middlesex DA Gerry Leone to Step Down, Will Join Scott Brown at Law Firm

Leone will join the law firm of Nixon Peabody on April 29.

Middlesex District Attorney Gerry Leone is stepping down from his office to join the law firm of Nixon Peabody, the same firm former Sen. Scott Brown earlier this month said he was joining. An announcement from Nixon Peabody says Leone will join the firm as a partner in the government investigations and white collar defense practice beginning April 29. A woman at the Middlesex District Attorney's office confirmed the news, but did not have further details. Leone was first elected as Middlesex district attorney in 2006, and his current term in office was up in 2014. He previously stated he would not run for re-election at the end of his term. DA: Teen Shooting Suspect Arranged to Meet With Victim

Tyrell Berberena, Jr., 17 of Malden, faces charges of armed assault to murder and possession of a large capacity firearm.

The 17-year-old arrested in connection with Monday's shooting of another 17-year-old near Warren Street allegedly knew the victim and had arranged to meet when the shooting happened, according to the Middlesex District Attorney's Office. Malden Police arrested Tyrell Berberena, Jr., after the shooting, according to a press release from the DA's Office. He faces charges of armed assault to murder and possession of a large capacity firearm and will be arraigned Tuesday morning in Malden District Court. At 10:31 a.m. on Monday, Malden Police responded to reports of a shooting at the intersection of Warren Street and Eastern Avenue, according to the DA's press release.
