Are Some Gifts Too Precious to Forget?

Malden Public Library gave 94-year-old Constance Allingham Niland and her family a Christmas they'll treasure forever before her sudden stroke last week.

Editor's note: Over the holiday season, we ran a letter from reader Bill Niland, who shared his story about scanning copies of a 1935 Malden High School yearbook as a Christmas gift for his 94 year old mother, Constance Allingham Niland, who graduated from the school that year.  The following is a letter he addressed to the library's reference and systems librarian Stephen C. Nedell, who assisted him in the effort. A copy of the letter was forwarded to Malden Patch for publication.  Dear Stephen: Happy New Year. I just found the Patch today! I think it's great and will be checking in more often. I orginally lived in Malden in '49 thru early '50's, but my family moved. I've returned and have been a resident for 2 -1/2 years. Got on-line in May 2012, and have been surfing around. Glad I found the Patch. Maybe I'll be contributing in the future. Thanks from Kat!!   more ›
