Teams Respond to Gas Leak on Princeton Road

Firefighters responded to the scene early Monday evening, forcing entry into unoccupied homes and advising residents to potentially evacuate, though the main was fixed by 8:30 p.m.

Malden Firefighters and National Grid employees responded to a "significant gas main break" near 31 Princeton Road, though the scene was ultimately contained with no injuries reported Monday evening.  Residents reported an odor of gas in the neighborhood around 5:30 p.m., according to scanner transmissions. A National Grid spokesman reported crews had fixed the problem by 8:30 p.m.  The cause of the break was not immediately clear Monday night. Emergency crews were seen digging up Princeton Road and forcing entry into unoccupied homes to quickly respond to the leak.  Several roads around the scene were closed off by emergency personnel.  Twitter user @MarkBates took this panaromic shot of the scene outside of his Princeton Road home.
