Monday, April 15 was my first time running the Boston Marathon. It was suppose to be a fun day focused on overcoming a strenuous 26.2-mile race, but once I reached the end, I was greeted with panic, caution and tears rather than high fives and celebrations. Monday was a perfect day for a runner and spectator, it was sunny and warm with a cool breeze. It would be hard to find an excuse why anyone with the day off from work wouldn’t be in town to either watch the race, the Sox game or to grab a bite at a restaurant. I was running this marathon as a bandit. I had no official number and was nervous security or someone from the Boston Athletic Association would kick me out. Wrestler Rufus Arrah Effege, originally from Cameroon, will represent Malden High at the High School Senior Nationals.

Malden High School Senior Rufus Arrah Effege, who boasts a career wrestling record of 77-15 and who placed second in this year’s Division 1 State Wrestling Tournament will complete at the High School Senior Nationals in Virginia from April 4-7.  Although Rufus hasn’t yet made a decision about where he will attend college in the fall, he plans to wrestle and looks forward to the exposure of wrestling on a national stage. Rufus, originally from Cameroon, has been a resident of Malden for the past two years residing with his mother and younger sister.

Three-peat in the Books for Malden Catholic Boys Hockey

The Lancers withstood an early push from Austin Prep and went on to win a third straight Division 1A crown with a 3-2 win on Sunday.

The third time was just as charming. Despite a slow start to the season, Malden Catholic High School bounced back to make the Super 8 once again this season. And for the third straight year, it was the Lancers who ended the year as Division 1A champions. Malden Catholic withstood a goal 14 seconds into the game, bouncing back to take a 3-1 edge and hold on for a 3-2 win against upstart Austin Prep. Tyler Sifferlen knotted things up at 1-1 in the first period after Nolan Vesy put Austin Prep on top in the opening seconds of the game at TD Garden on Sunday.
