Sevek "Joe" Fishman, 93, ran Fishman Tailor Quality Plus
A Malden man who survived the horrors of the Warsaw Ghetto during the Nazi Holocaust has died. Sevek “Joe” Fishman, 93, of Malden, was buried in Sharon, MA Sunday, and is survived by 3 children and ten grandchildren. Fishman, well-known to his customers, ran Fishman Tailor Quality Plus on Summer Street in Malden. According to archives at the US Holocaust Memorial Museum, Fishman and his late wife Lonia – whom he married in Warsaw – escaped the ghetto for her hometown of Wegrow, where a peasant couple agreed to hide them on their property. The couple hid in a hand-dug hole lined with straw for nearly 18 months, until they were liberated by Soviet forces in 1945. The following was supplied by Solimine, Landergan and Richardson Funeral Home: Atty. Daniel J. Horgan, Jr., age 85, of Lynn, died on Monday after a period of declining health. He was the husband of the late Jacqueline T. (O'Neil) Horgan for 46 years, until her death in 2000. A lifelong resident of Lynn, he was the son of the late Ellen T. (Hannon) Horgan and Daniel J. Horgan, Sr. Atty. Horgan was a graduate of St. Mary's Boys High School, class of 1944. He served in the United States Army during World War II and was stationed on the islands of Saipan and Iwo Jima in the Pacific. She was born October 10, 1942 in Everett, Massachusetts the daughter of Guido and Catherine (Lynch) Rigolini. Diane was raised and educated in Everett. She graduated from St. Rose with the Class of 1960. In 1964 she and her sweetheart, Robert Rivers, were married in the Immaculate Conception Church of Everett. He was born in March of 1941 in Everett, the son of Trueman and Jane (Mitchell) Mann. Bruce was raised and educated in Malden, graduating from Malden High School with the Class of 1959. After high school, he served our country by joining the National Guard. In July of 1965, he married his sweetheart, Anna Grover, in Malden. The two settled down in Malden raise their family. It also appears on the Malden Public Library blog.] Malden Public Library’s Linden Branch lost its heart and soul with the death of Martha (Marty) B. Van Riddle’s on June 3. Marty had served as Branch Supervisor for more than 20 years. She shared her wisdom, humor, culture, and interest in the wide world with many of her Linden “children.” They are now adults with wonderful memories of their librarian and how she inspired them. She remains alive as long as they are alive. Marty shared tears and joy with many adults who became her extended family. DiGiammarino served as assistant superintendent, assistant high school principal, coach and teacher in his long career with Malden public schools.
John DiGiammarino, former Malden Assistant superintendent, High School assistant principal, coach and teacher, has passed away. Malden High School principal Dana Brown announced DiGiammarino’s death in an email to staff on Monday morning. The 76-year-old DiGiammarino passed away on Sunday in Jupiter, FL, according to Spadafora Funeral Home. He served Malden's schools in various capacities for 44 years. Aside from his years of service to Malden Public Schools, DiGiammarino was also principal at Saugus High School for five years. The wake has been scheduled for Sunday, May 1, 3–7 p.m. at Spadafora Funeral Home. The funeral will take place at Immaculate Conception Church on Monday at 9 a.m.. Fraser died suddenly Friday.
A decorated Medford Firefighter died suddenly at his Malden home last Friday. Joseph C. Fraser, Jr., 58, served Medford's fire department for over 30 years. He was also a Medford native and veteran of the U.S. Marines. He began his career as a firefighter in 1979, collecting two medals and two commendations along the way. In September 1991, he was awarded the Manville Richards Medal, given for acts of bravery and heroism, for battling a fire at 6 Salem St. earlier that year. At the same ceremony, he was given the Chief Leo F. McCabe Medal for assisting a woman who collapsed at a supermarket while he was shopping off-duty, according to information released by the fire department.
