Dedicated in 1975 and designed to serve as an anchor for a pedestrian-friendly district, Government Center sits in the middle of Pleasant street, cutting the roadway in two. Most Malden government offices are located in the center. There are also state-run offices and a coffee shop in the building. Take note: There are two entrances to the building, each of which leads to a different floor. Anyone entering on the Commercial Street side of the building is on the first floor. The entrance facing the Pleasant Street part of Malden Center is on the second floor.
