What should I wear?

In Zumba there's a lot of movement, especially arms and hip movements. You should definitely wear something loose, like sweat pants, loose T-shirts, something that's going to allow you to move around freely. Later on you when you have caught the Zumba fever and decided that Zumba is for you, you can go to the Zumba website and purchase some of their loose, colorful and funky attire made especially for Zumba fitness.

I can't dance. I literally have two left feet. Will I have a problem doing Zumba?

The great thing about Zumba is that you don't have to be a dancer to enjoy it. Zumba is for every one. Zumba is more based on movement, so the choreography is easy to follow. If you don't have rhythm, you will after a few weeks of doing Zumba.

 

What kind of music is used in Zumba?

Zumba incorporates rhythms from all over the world: Latin, African, Brazilian, hip hop and many more.

 

What changes can I expect to see in my body after a few weeks of doing Zumba?

Since Zumba works on your core, with all the arms and hip action, you'll start noticing a more toned core in a few weeks. Also since Zumba is a great cardio workout you will also expect to see some weight lose in a few weeks.

 

I have bad knees and a bad back, can I still do Zumba?

It's always a good idea to first consult with your doctor before doing any form of exercise especially if you have a specific medical condition. But the great thing about Zumba is that you can go at your own pace. You can stop and take as many breaks as you like and nobody is going to get upset or penalize you for it.

 

Can I lose weight doing Zumba?

Zumba is one of the best form of exercises to lose weight. In a one hour class you can burn anywhere from 500 to 1000 calories and the great thing is that you don't realize it because you are having so much fun. If you take at least 2 Zumba classes a week and maintain a well balanced diet you will expect to see results in your weight in a matter of a few weeks.

 

What does a typical Zumba class feel like?

A typical Zumba class is between 45 minutes to an hour long. Time goes by so fast, that when the class is over you want more and that's one of the secret ingredients of Zumba. Every class feels like a party. In that one hour you will go through a series of movements specially designed to bring your heat rate up and tone your body. If in the beginning you find it hard to follow the movements don't worry the movements are repeated over and over. Eventually you’ll get the movements.
