Join Bike To The Sea At Saturday's Garden Clean-Up
The local organization seeks volunteers to help clean up a garden site that students in the Malden Schools are planning to use.

The city of Malden is developing a community garden along the emerging Northern Strand Community Trail near Railroad Avenue and Bryant Street in Malden's Ward 5.
Bike to the Sea Inc. is playing a leadership roll in designing, writing grants, sourcing funding and building the garden in collaboration with Ward 5 Councilor Barbara Murphy. Bike to the Sea sees itself as a steward of an emerging greenway and looks to partner with local nonprofits, concerned citizens and the municipalities through which the trail travels to invest in this new open space resource and make it the best it can be.

When complete the garden will have multiple individual garden plots, space for students from Malden Schools to garden and learn about science and horticulture, a large common perennial border and a sitting and gathering space. It is hoped that this garden can be the start of many gardens across the city of Malden!
A series of free public events and meetings are being planned to kick off the garden building project, starting with a clean up and tour of the Railroad Ave. garden site on March 24. This will be followed a few weeks later by a community meeting and design charrette to refine the design of the garden, organize interested gardeners and community members and develop a plan to manage and maintain the garden.

Location: Railroad Ave and Bryant Street Just off Eastern Avenue
Wear: Gloves, strong shoes or boots. A trash grabber is helpful. Bike to the Sea will provide trash bags.
