Bread of Life Announces Annual Easter Dinner And Gift Bags for Kids

The Malden charity's annual Easter meal will be on April 8th, from noon to 2 o'clock, and they're still interested in donations from the community to support the gift bags they hand out to kids.

Article and info provided by Bread Of Life:

Bread of Life is hosting its annual Easter Dinner on Easter Sunday, April 8, 2012 from noon - 2 p.m. at St. Paul's Parish, 26 Washington Street, Malden. The dinner is free of charge, and open to anyone in need or alone for the holiday, no reservation needed.

The Friends of Francis, from St. Francis of Assisi Church in Medford, will serve the meal, coordinated by Gerri and Vinny DiClemente.  Marty Murphy, owner of Marty's Caterers at Montvale Plaza in Stoneham, is once again donating the turkey, mashed potatoes and stuffing. Marty’s is a great supporter of Bread of Life, donating catering services for their Golf Tournament and Thanksgiving dinner as well. The Friends of Francis are donating the vegetables, salad and bread. Colleen’s Brigham’s in Medford Square is donating ice cream and Hoff's Bakery of Medford is donating desserts.

In addition to the dinner, Bread of Life will also be distributing 300 Easter gift bags to children of families who use the food pantry, and to homeless children sheltered in local motels.

For the past nine years, Melrose resident Alice Harris has coordinated this major project, putting together most of the bags herself. Christine Heggarty created and donated 300 pastel print cloth bags to be filled. The Oak Grove Improvement Association (OGIA) is helping to fill them.

The homeless and low-income kids who receive the Easter bags are always thrilled! Bread of Life welcomes donations of gift items for the project, such as pinwheels, paddleball, pocket-size games, small puzzles, small dolls, action figures and rubber balls. Donations of candy are also welcome, such as individually wrapped chocolate eggs, marshmallow bunnies, jellybeans, candy bars and small individual boxes of candy. Financial donations are also very much appreciated to defray the cost of this project. Checks can be made payable to "Bread of Life", with "Easter bags" indicated in the note section, and mailed to Bread of Life, 54 Eastern Avenue Rear, Malden, MA 02148.
