School Committee votes to outsource custodians' jobs

On Monday, May 19, the Malden School Committee voted to approve a budget outsourcing the school custodians' jobs to a low wage, out-of-town, nonunion company. Members Jerry Leone and Kevin Casucci voted against the budget. Mayor Christenson skipped out of the meeting before the vote.

With that vote, the school committee budget must now be approved by the City Council.  The Council vote is expected sometime in June.

The school custodians are urging the city council to vote NO on the budget.
