Will You Be Rooting for Malden’s Breno Giacomini and the Seattle Seahawks in the Super Bowl?

Yes, a former Malden High football player is in the big game.

If Malden residents didn’t already have enough reasons to root against Peyton Manning on Sunday, here’s another: former Malden High football player Breno Giacomini is the starting right tackle for the Seattle Seahawks.

Believe it or not, the now 6-foot-7, 318-pound Giacomini played quarterback his freshman year at Malden. He then played linebacker, before deciding to focus solely on basketball his junior year.

Giacomini, 28, played college football at Louisville, was drafted by the Green Bay Packers in the 5th Round in 2008 and was acquired by the Seahawks in 2010.

Now quarterback Russell Wilson’s protector, Giacomini will be tasked with blocking the Denver Broncos’ pass rush Sunday and creating holes for running back Marshawn Lynch.

If you’re looking for Malden’s native son on Sunday, he’ll be wearing No. 68 and be on the right end of the Seahawks’ offensive line (to Russell Wilson’s right that is).

Super Bowl XLVIII kicks off from Metlife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J., at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 2. The game will be televised on Fox.

Will you be rooting for the Seattle Seahawks because of Giacomini?
