Senator Clark Calls for Common Sense Reforms to End Gun Violence

BOSTON, MA—Senator Katherine Clark continued her call for common sense reforms to end gun violence in our communities at a hearing of the Joint Committee on Public Safety and Homeland Security on August 12, 2013.  The hearing, one of five being held around the Commonwealth this summer, took place at Wilmington High School.

Malden Mayor Gary Christenson and many residents of the Commonwealth testified on firearms-related legislation pending before the Committee.  Senator Clark serves on the Committee and expressed her thanks to all who took the time to attend and testify.

"Every day in this country we lose eight children to gun violence.  This is a public health epidemic and is unacceptable to us all,” said Senator Clark.  “I want to thank everyone who took the time to testify, and I encourage all residents to share their views as the Committee considers these important bills.  I know there is common ground on this issue: we all want our kids to live in safer, more secure communities, to go to school without the risk of violence, and to thrive in happy, strong and safe relationships.”
