Malden Delegation Announces State Grants Supporting Malden Cultural Community

Boston, MA - Senator Katherine Clark (D-5th Middlesex) along with Representative Paul Brodeur (D-32nd Middlesex), Representative Paul Donato (D-35th Middlesex), and Representative Christopher Fallon (D-33rd Middlesex) are pleased to announce that the Massachusetts Cultural Council has approved $21,300 in funding to the Malden Cultural Council, as well as direct grants in the amount of $12,800 to cultural organizations in the City of Malden.

The MCC’s announcement was made as part of a statewide funding initiative to support a variety of cultural programs and activities in communities throughout the Commonwealth.

“These grants play a central role as we work to develop our local cultural council programs,” said Senator Clark. “With the help of this grant, the Malden Cultural Council will be able to continue its mission of supporting local arts programs for the community.”

The Local Cultural Council Program supports thousands of community-based initiatives throughout Massachusetts and is the largest grassroots cultural funding network in the nation, providing quality cultural experiences available to all citizens.

“Our local cultural councils provide this district with an important and meaningful service,” said Representative Brodeur. “I am glad the state has allocated these funds for the arts.”

"These grants are instrumental to their funding goals,” said Representative Donato. “It is imperative that we preserve and expand our cultural programs.”

In addition, the MCC has awarded direct grants in the amount of $12,800 to cultural organizations in the City of Malden. Grants were awarded to The Boston Modern Orchestra Project and the Chinese Cultural Connection in the amount of $9,300 and $3,500 respectively. The grants are meant to promote the impact these organization have in the local community.

The MCC is a state agency supporting the arts, sciences, and humanities to improve the quality of life in Massachusetts and its communities. It pursues its mission through a combination of grants, services, and advocacy for nonprofit cultural organizations, schools, communities, and artists. MCC’s total budget for the current fiscal year is $11.2 million, which includes annual grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and other sources.
