MHS Grad is Heading to West Point

Lisa DeLacey is one of 1,200 new cadets in the prestigious military academy's freshman class this year.

A Malden High alumni is reporting to duty at West Point Academy this month.

Lisa DeLacey took seven Advanced Placement classes, led the girls tennis team to two state championships, volunteered at a gym class for students with special needs and was a member of the National Honor Society during her stint at Malden High.

She was also the captain of the girls' volleyball team and basketball team.

DeLacey received a recommendation from Senator-Elect Ed Markey - a congressional nomination is required to apply to the prestigious military academy - who cited her leadership skills and service in city.

“I am so grateful for the many opportunities Malden has provided me. The people, resources, and life right here in Malden, is like no other. I am extremely thankful to grow up in an environment that breeds success, growth, community and hard work," DeLacey wrote in a statement.
