How Do Malden Teachers’ Salaries Compare to Their Peers?

A new report ranks Massachusetts districts' average salaries.

The average teacher salary in the Malden Public Schools was $78,868 in 2013, according to a new report by Boston Business Journal.

In the report, Malden’s average salary ranks 40th of the 328 Massachusetts districts listed. Malden’s average salary was also $10,000 higher than the state median of $69,000.

Concord-Carlisle had the highest average salary at $95,947, while Florida, a small community in western Massachusetts, had the lowest at $35,497.

According to the Boston Business Journal’s Craig Douglas, “There's really not much consistency among local towns and cities when it comes to teacher salaries and employment. Some communities are spending more than ever, while others are below where they were before the last recession. Many school districts have seen average teacher pay jump in recent years, while others have made cuts.”
