The deadline for registering to vote in the Special State Primary next month is 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25 in Malden, according to an email from Carol Ann Desiderio, assistant registrar of voters for the City Clerk's Office.

The primary is slated for 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15.

Seven Democratic candidates are vying for former Congressman Edward Markey's seat in Congress, including:

  • State Sen. William Brownsberger, Belmont
  • State Sen. Katherine Clark, Melrose
  • Middlesex Sheriff Peter Koutoujian, Waltham
  • Former Lexington School Committee member Martin Long, Arlington
  • Paul Maison, Stoneham
  • State Rep. Carl Sciortino, Jr., Medford
  • State Sen. Karen Spilka, Ashland
Voters will also vote for one of three candidates seeking to become a Representative in Congress. The candidates are:

  • Frank Addivinola, Jr., Boston
  • Michael Stopa, Holliston
  • Tom Tierney, Framingham
