WATER ALERT: Check For Discoloration Today

While any affected water is safe to drink, officials advise residents the iron deposits in a newly re-activated water pipe could stain clothes in the wash today.

The Massachusetts Water Resources Authority will be re-activating a water pipeline in Medford Wednesday, involving a slight chance of discolored water in Malden. There will be no change in water pressure.

Any discoloration will be the result of a small amount of iron in the pipes. While safe for drinking, cooking and other uses, please note that iron will stain light colored items in your laundry, especially when bleach is used.

Residents should check water clarity before washing any white or lighter colored laundry during this period of work.
