Volunteer Needed for Planning Board Vacancy

The board needs a new associate member.

Mayor Gary Christenson is reaching out to Malden residents in an effort to fill the vacancy of Associate Member of the Planning Board.

The nine-member Planning Board is the primary special permit granting authority under the City's zoning ordinance (land use regulations). The Board administers the subdivision control law; acts as Site Plan Review Committee; makes recommendations to the City Council on zoning amendments; and conducts master planning activities.

Planning Board Members are appointed by the Mayor with City Council Confirmation and serve a term of five years. The present vacancy, resulting from a resignation, is to fill an unexpired term which will end on May 1, 2013.  At the discretion of the Mayor the candidate will be reappointed to a full five-year term.
