Teen Gets Big Surprise After Stolen Bike

Resident Tim DiCato stepped up to the plate to help a Malden High School student whose bike was stolen last month.

Thanks to a generous donor, a Malden High School student received a quick replacement for his stolen bicycle this week.

Resident Tim DiCato purchased the new ride after learning of efforts by Mayor Gary Christenson to help 9th grader Deyshawn Boucicault, a student the mayor met at the school's Adventures and Academics Program.

The bike was Boucicault's only means of transportation, so Christenson reached out to the police department to see if they had any second-hand bikes available for donation.

When they didn't, Capt. Glenn Cronin started making some calls around the city.

DiCato "didn't hesitate" and bought a new Schwinn Mountain Bike - and bike lock - for Boucicault, Christenson said.

The mayor invited the teen to his office under the pretense of discussing the school program, where he surprised him with the new bike.

“This was an opportunity to help a teen who was a victim of burglary,” wrote in an e-mailed statement.

“I commend Tom DiCato for his generosity and for immediately offering his assistance. Another fine example of how our community comes together to help those in need.”
