Spadafora, D'Arcangelo, DeMaria Win Councillor At-Large Race

Two incumbents and one newcomer won the councillor at-large race on election day Tuesday in Malden.

Contested Races

Craig Spadafora and David D'Arcangelo were re-elected to the City Council, while Debbie DeMaria was also elected to a two-year term on the council. Spadafora was the top vote-getter with 2,891 voters, followed by D'Arcangelo (2,652 votes) and DeMaria with 2,484. Gladys Rivera Rogers (2,012 votes) finished in fourth, followed by Robert McCarthy Jr. (1,527), William Coleman (1,466) and Jay Lamport with 705 votes.

In the race for Ward 3 School Committee, Pietro Cicoline defeated candidate Daniel Lee Grover III, 369 to 149.

In the Ward 3 City Councillor race, John Matheson beat challenger Mark Lawhorne, 726-436.

In tightly contested race for Ward 3 School Committee, Lawrence Silverman narrowly defeated candidate James Holland, 568-509.

Ward 6 City Councillor Neil Kinnon was re-elected, as he beat challenger John Torosian 579-350.

In a close contest between three write-in candidates for Ward 6 School Committee, Jerry Leone (159 votes) edged Kristin McAuiliffe (147) and Joseph Gray with 116 votes.

Kevin Casucci narrowly defeated challenger Catherine Bordonaro in the race for Ward 7 School Committee. Casucci tallied 282 votes to Bordonaro's 266.

In the race for Ward 8 City Councillor, Jadeane Sica beat candidate George Laskey, 413-368.

Twenty-one percent of all registered voters in Malden cast their ballots on Tuesday. Of the 29,230 registered voters in the city, 6,275 voted on election day.
