Update: Mayor Howard Candidate Finalist for Winchester Town Manager

The outgoing mayor is one of four seriously considered for the position.

Outgoing mayor Richard C. Howard is one of four finalists under consideration for a town manager position in Winchester, .

The four-term mayor announced he would  

“I'm looking at any number of opportunities,” he said. “Even though there are other (town) manager positions that are open, this is the only one I am seeking.”

Howard said that, whatever the outcome, he hoped to have a new job by the time his term ends in January.

He added that he would continuing making contributions to his pension fund, and was not eligible to collect a lump sum upon leaving office. The salary range for the new position is advertised as between $130,000 and $160,000 a year.

The Malden resident said he no plans to move to Winchester, in the event he is selected for the position.

The Winchester Board of Selectmen plans on holding interviews with all the candidates – Howard, Saugus Town Manager Andrew R. Bisignani, Swampscott Town Administrator Andrew W. Maylor and Belmont Town Administrator Thomas G. Younger – next Wednesday, Oct. 5.

Winchester has been without a Town Manager since June 2010 when they elected not to renew the contract of . Town Clerk, .

Prior to serving as Mayor, Howard had a law practice providing representation to business-oriented clients, including banking and real estate development.

He also represented clients before local board and commissions.
