Markey Kicks Off Campaign at Malden YMCA

The long-time congressman faces South Boston Congressman Steven Lynch in a Democratic primary.

Congressman Ed Markey was joined by Mayor Gary Christenson at a campaign kick-off event at the Malden YMCA Saturday.

It was the official start of the campaign, though Markey had signaled he'd be running for the seat last December.

He faces South Boston Congressman Steven Lynch in the Democratic primary.

"For the last 30 years, the last 3 Middlesex District Attorneys have not run for reelection to a 3rd term as Middlesex District Attorney. Like my predecessors, I too will not run for reelection to a third term as Middlesex District Attorney in 2014. However, unlike my predecessor Middlesex District Attorneys, I am not running for another elective office, and in fact, I intend to leave Government service when I leave this office." Middlesex DA Gerry Leone In fairness to MR. Leone he's allowed to change his mind. I think his chance to win increases greatly if he waits and runs for Markey's seat, assuming Markey wins.

I was in the supermarket the other day, and I saw Ed Markey on the back of a milk carton. It said "have you seen me lately?"

The usual laugher is the very folks who loathe and whine about political hacks like Markey, are the same ones who will vote for him again. I wonder sometimes to myself, if most Massachusetts voters are on acid come election time.

No Paul, they' ve probally been to a doctor ( they can afford one) and what they're high on is called our tax dollars. Can someone get me a Starbucks Latte & a new pill, lol pardon my puns, the coffee will give me positivity as long as it has a liquid additive, lmao

Ann, when was the last time anyone saw Ed Markey in Malden? Now he magically appears to share the good news that he's willing to take it on the chin, and spend more of our tax dollars. I am giddy with joy!

Paul, A parade or a party!!! The YMCA, you mean he has time to work out? I stopped voting because its a waste of my time, although I'll admit I had voted for him in the past, I don't like politics! Its a dirty game lately. Where & when we get our elected officials right for our communities I don't know, I don't have the answers, just trying to be part of a fix to the problems we are incurring now. I'm at a loss as to who to vote for it gets very confusing. Just being honest here, thanks for the response and opening up a new conversation but lets face it, it'll never be perfect, so there goes my positive attitude.

You know Ann, I would never endorse anyone refusing to vote, but I hear exactly where you're coming from. I just wish people would wake up,and find the stones to rid of these hacks. In the end, most of these hacks are out for themselves and job security. Now you watch, and you'll see this guy gets elected to this grand position. You think no one's heard from him lately? Wait till he gets in, then you'll be looking for his name on ancestory.com!

You know Paul, I'm not looking for any endorsments just answers to our communities problems, but thanks for making me laugh even when none of this is funny really
