Police Conduct More Police Sweeps

Mayor Christenson says residents should expect more sweeps aimed at 'sending a message' to criminal elements in the city.

About 15-20 police motorcycles moved throughout the city both Friday and Saturday evenings, in a series of several planned 'police sweeps' aimed at curbing crime in the city.

Saturday night's presence was the fourth night the city has utilized the regional program, at no cost to the city.

Mayor Gary Christenson said he had not heard of any arrests related to the sweeps, though a police spokesperson was not immediately available for confirmation.

Bystanders were seen taking notice of the parade of police officers, who reportedly stopped at several parks throughout the city.

Great turn Malden into a police state now..... why don't people fight the real issues and the roots of crim, a.k.a poverty and drug laws
Perault October 01, 2012 at 04:45 PM
So the Malden Police should fight poverty and drug laws? Good job police never mind those with agendas. If a so called police state lets my neighbors and me go to the park with our kids again is that alright with you.
jirkyrick October 01, 2012 at 05:18 PM
police state? huh... wha .. aflac.... It is not turning into a police state, I think it's just the opposite... they are taking back the city from the drug addicts and poverty areas...oh yeh and those middle class white kids "gone bad".. works for me
Perault October 01, 2012 at 05:30 PM
Chris just wondering why you didn't know about friday's sweeps. Also the story about the police arresting the man with a gun on Bryant St. The police are doing all this great stuff and peoople should read about it. I prefer the Patch over Boston.com but they had the other story.

@ CALB sorry to hear happened to me too it's creepy not so much as what they took but just knowing that a stranger was in your house poking around touching your things. I never got over it runs through your head all the time.
david mokal October 01, 2012 at 05:39 PM
POLICE STATE ? How can people bitch about this. Crypes this is the best thing that ever happended. Thank You all Police and Mayor Howard.

The mayor originally told me there were only three, he texted me this morning and corrected there was a raid on Friday night as well. Sometimes other places get stories I don't. I don't have an explanation for all of them.
jirkyrick October 01, 2012 at 06:51 PM
Mayor Howard? Why would be thanking the ex mayor, he is one of the major reasons we are in this predicament. Thanks to the current Mayor for recognizing the problem and addressing it, unlike the previous mayor (Howard) who had an indicted organized crime person as a special assistant, decreased the number of police on the street in malden and refused to recognize the problem while his own car was being burglarized in the city hall garage while addressing the city to tell them that crime was not a problem in Malden. Great work Mayor Christenson!!!

.This is making a difference for all of us. Thanks to the Mayor and all the police officers for helping us have a safer place to live and enjoy our city, please keep at it

LOL OOPs Thank You Mayor Christonson. Sorry Bout that Good Greif
jirkyrick October 01, 2012 at 09:58 PM
figured that was a mistake, I cant think of anything to thank Howard for... worst mayor in America bar none
Kelley October 01, 2012 at 10:05 PM
I agree. It's just sending a message that this city won't tolerate all of this nonsense. Where the miscreants go is their problem. What we are trying to do is keep the city a place where people choose to want to live. Not leave.
west meff October 02, 2012 at 04:14 AM
Police sweeps are all for show they do nothing to solve the problem. Sure it may cut off the top of the weeds but the roots are still there and will just come back again and again and again. Why not adress the roots of the problems, poverty and drug laws.
Kelley October 02, 2012 at 11:12 AM
I agree. And we have been fighting the last two scourges forever. Can they be alleviated? Yes. It would take a dissertation though to get into the full scope of the these problems and time and space will not allow that here. BUT, just wanted to point out a part of how the cycle of poverty keeps rolling. We have to keep young people in school and keep them motivated and let them see that despite some of the roadblocks they will encounter, eventually they will see another outcome. I say this because I was in Malden Square one day last week and I saw three young women, actually girls who were happily pushing baby carriages. I don't know if they are still in school or if there was a day off. But this shouldn't be. This is where that cycle gets stuck. Hopefully they are continuing to get their education. Hopefully they are able to properly care for these kids. Hopefully the young fathers of these children are in their lives. Because if not, the kids don't get on the right track and it starts all over again.

Every comment you have made is anti-police and to legalize drugs. Why don't you go away you are not helping us or even from Malden and we don't need or appreciate your input. Good job to the police for helping our city be a better place.
west meff October 02, 2012 at 05:26 PM
I'm trying to educate the ignorant who hold stone age views with no basis. People like you Marc, who can't even think on their own.
Marc October 02, 2012 at 09:44 PM
Quoting you the police are "thugs with badges" so your opinion is obviously tainted. Did you fail the test or get arrested for drugs? I can think very clearly on my own. I think you have issues and an agenda.
T. Cas October 03, 2012 at 01:42 AM
Really?? SMH at you.. You should be glad they are doing something. Anythinng. This is a step in the right direction. I left here 9 years ago and recently moved back. Tnis place was never this bad. Last week I heard 2 separate guns shootig 2x's a each not far from my house. Makes me scared to death (being a gunshot victim myself) and also scared for my child.. You must not have kids. I'm glad they are doing it!
DannyBoy October 03, 2012 at 03:34 AM
Tsk, tsk west meff, aren't you quick to jump to conclusions and paint people with a broad brush? If you've lived in Malden for any amount of time, you wouldn't make this type of comment, but my guess is no. Why do you put down the good folks of Malden when they are cheering and supporting the Mayor's and local police's efforts to rid the city of crime and criminal elements?
west meff October 03, 2012 at 04:34 AM
They are. I don't have an agenda, I have a solution that can work and help Malden unlike you. Your fooling yourself if you think a couple of police sweeps are gonna do anything to help Malden, it's nothing but a smoke screen.... Why not adress the real issues, illegal laws, and poverty?
Diana October 03, 2012 at 11:23 AM
Marion Barry just fist-pumped the air and he's not sure why.
DannyBoy October 03, 2012 at 01:23 PM
west meff, you claim that you have a solution that can work and help Malden, so why don't you run for political office instead of trolling these forums? Seriously?
west meff October 03, 2012 at 03:09 PM
Danny Boy, I wish but i'm not rich or white. Trolling? Yes marginalize the views of anyone who doesn't support the failed status quo, great tactic maybe your the one who should run for office?
Blue October 03, 2012 at 04:52 PM
You are an idiot. No further comment needed. Thank you Malden PD
jirkyrick October 03, 2012 at 05:33 PM
to west Meff.....cool, if we get rid of the poverty we get rid of the crime. lets start by getting rid of all the sect 8 housing, that would remove a lot of the poverty ;) Just saying Brian, Just saying
DannyBoy October 03, 2012 at 07:34 PM
Sorry west meff, politics is not my cup of tea. Besides, you're the one who offered a solution to poverty and drugs, and we have yet to hear about it. You better have something of substance to back that statement, or other people will call you out on that.

when my mother was stabbed to death in her west end home by an intruder in 1999 it was such an isolated incident...a junkie coke head needed more money to keep his fix going.....but now its an everyday thing in Malden..the house breaks are out of control the pills and heroin have taken over kids are dead from overdoses in record highs....its a mess out there right now I moved my kids out of Malden after my daughter was sexually assaulted at the H.S. as if we weren't through enough....Malden schools backed her attackers saying they were less fortunate kids blah blah blah....its a sh!@# show...half way houses all over the city etc...Howard was only the tip of the ice berg...I could expose so much corruption in that city its a joke....all these sweeps and no arrests?????? and no police official available to the mayor for comment just made me laugh so hard I fell out of my chair.......
Kelley October 06, 2012 at 11:57 PM
Sorry-Hope your family is doing better. I recall this incident. With everything you say about this city it's a wonder anyone purchases a home here. Just hope things aren't this bad.
