Teams Respond to Gas Leak on Princeton Road

Firefighters responded to the scene early Monday evening, forcing entry into unoccupied homes and advising residents to potentially evacuate, though the main was fixed by 8:30 p.m.

Malden Firefighters and National Grid employees responded to a "significant gas main break" near 31 Princeton Road, though the scene was ultimately contained with no injuries reported Monday evening.

Residents reported an odor of gas in the neighborhood around 5:30 p.m., according to scanner transmissions.

A National Grid spokesman reported crews had fixed the problem by 8:30 p.m.

The cause of the break was not immediately clear Monday night. Emergency crews were seen digging up Princeton Road and forcing entry into unoccupied homes to quickly respond to the leak.

Several roads around the scene were closed off by emergency personnel.

I like how the residents in that location did not get a Code Red Call yet we all got one tonight for a free help with housing meeting. Don't waste my tax dollars on something that should be on MATV OR PATCH about a meeting. This system was set up for serious natured situations. Not one resident got called about that gas leak do great job to Patch.com for letting the residents know.

I complain that we got a code red alert for meetings. It is for emergency use only and a meeting is not an emergency.

I want my phone number removed. I get these calls, calls from the school department, city hall, etc. I never signed up for these calls and don't want them. I've called city hall, the high school, etc. and they STILL haven't removed my number.
