Red Cross is assisting 15 residents left out-in-the-cold on Christmas morning.

More than a dozen residents, including six children, of a Coburn Street multifamily were left homeless Christmas morning when a fire caused by an electrical problem located in the walls caused considerable damage to the top floor of the two-and-a-half story structure, according to the Malden Fire Department.

The fire started around 6:30 a.m. at 7 Coburn St., located a block from Eastern Avenue and near Malden High School.

There was extensive damage to the second floor and attic, according to fire officials, as the blaze was located in the walls and ceiling of both areas.
