MAYOR: Hopes To Announce "New Initiatives" To Fight Crime Next Week

Christenson released a statement Sunday night after a violent week in the city.

Note: The following was submitted by Mayor Gary Christenson:

Malden Police continue to move forward in their investigations of separate unrelated shootings over the weekend.

Police have for a 20-year-old Medford man, Daniel Rossetti, on the charge of attempted murder. This warrant is the result of an ongoing investigation related to the .

If anyone has information regarding the incidents listed above, please call 781-397-7181 or email Lt. Gatcomb at Mgatcomb@maldenpd.org.

In the meantime, Lt. Molis and I canvassed earlier this afternoon the area where the shooting took place early Saturday morning to let residents know that the Malden Police are continuing to work diligently to apprehend those responsible for these crimes.

This week I will be working closely with the Police Chief and his team along with members of the City Council to see what new initiatives can be put in place that will further address these acts of violence. My goal is to announce these ideas at the August 27th Public Safety Awareness meeting outdoors at on Cross Street from 6-8 pm.

My hope is also to have Middlesex District Attorney Gerry Leone at the meeting to update us on the status of the investigations.

Once again, I want to thank the Malden Police for giving it their all in working to solve these crimes.

Gary Christenson,
Mayor

Hi Gary I know you and you know me it is my son chris that is fighting for his life because of words and I hope you are all working together to find my sons shotter
Michael G August 20, 2012 at 08:00 AM
Brenda I hope your son has a speedy recovery. Good job on this news. I like the sound of it.

The mayor should let the police do their job and not interfere with police investigations as he has not been trained and could easily disturb any evidence that is in area Lt Molis is looking at.
Dana Roberts August 20, 2012 at 11:40 AM
where does it say the Mayor was poking around the bushes looking for clues Mr Marsters?
David Marsters August 20, 2012 at 11:51 AM
If you knew the area there are no bushes Mr Roberts.
Dana Roberts August 20, 2012 at 11:55 AM
thanks for not answering my question
David Marsters August 20, 2012 at 12:55 PM
Thank you very much for your comment.

Just sick thinking about this city and my families safety. All we need is one more year then were gone and never looking back. There are several issues with this city that go way back with one being the lack of Police presence which makes it ripe fro these thugs to do what ever they feel .

I have an initiative for the Mayor, lobby for more prisons!!!!
Chris Caesar August 20, 2012 at 03:06 PM
Mike, keep that in your back pocket. We're going to have a discussion about ideas for the mayor in tomorrow's 'issue.'

Cutting the police for years and years has made the crime here what it is. We all know what happened and who did it and those people should be ashamed of themselves.

the city is out of control, I see drug deals in feont of my house on a daily basis. The house next door is an over crowded boarding house and is supposed to be a two family. I like the idea of the new guy buying up the rental units in malden and raising the rents. Make the rent to high fo rall the low life this city attracts since the Howard days.

Chris Caesar August 20, 2012 at 05:48 PM
Here you go Lisa: http://malden.patch.com/listings/lincoln-commons Welcome to Malden!
Chris Caesar August 20, 2012 at 05:56 PM
The mayor was speaking to residents, not taking part in the investigation.
David Marsters August 20, 2012 at 06:38 PM
Lisa, pack your bags and leave the city.
Michael G August 20, 2012 at 09:44 PM
It is Cross St. That is the name of the street. You will see a big park and a pretty common area to sit. All stones and benches. I wish they got that water fountain for the middle. Public hot tub.
brenda lanciani August 20, 2012 at 09:48 PM
Are you kidding me outside like sitting ducks do you really think thay people r going to the park and be safe. I hope these shootings will be resolved by then.
Tony L August 20, 2012 at 10:25 PM
Biggest threat will be the mosquitos
J.longbow August 20, 2012 at 10:37 PM
people need to come forward and give information to help the police when crimes are committed. That is the best help the community can give back to the city.
maldensgreat August 21, 2012 at 12:14 AM
Thanks, Mayor. I know you are doing your best. I think it would be helpful to have more officers on foot and bikes in the neighborhoods, connecting with residents and building rapport. That way more citizens would cooperate.
Samantha August 21, 2012 at 03:19 AM
More officers period. Why aren't there two officers in the cars like there used to be. When did the safety of the public and the safety of the police officers head south? Malden needs more police officers and until that is done you will never get a grip on crime. I applaud the Mayor and his efforts but that is the bottom line to restore our city.
Lisa August 21, 2012 at 03:45 AM
Well, David, that's not very helpful nor very kind. Btw, you dont even live in Malden any more (according to your profile), so perhaps you should focus on the "back woods of Maine" where you now live.
Diana August 21, 2012 at 04:02 AM
Lisa, unpack and stay awhile. We're glad to have you, and there are plenty of good people here. David's day is so boring (outside of target practice) that he spends his days commenting on what's going on in Malden. I think you can email me from my profile if you'd like some company and the perspective of a 30 year Malden resident at the meeting.

Guys, give Mayor Christenson a break! We all asked for more police officers on the streets, and that is exactly what he did this week. Three new cadets just joined MPD. That is a huge step in the right direction. It may not be the perfect solution, but he is not sitting back doing nothing. I am sure that the upswing in crime in Malden is very upsetting to him. For a new mayor, that is a lot to take on. I admit that I was angry because I felt that he should have held an emergency meeting with all citizens of Malden immediately after the three shooting this past week, and not wait until his August 27th Public Safety Awareness meeting. However, he explained above that he is working on "New Initiatives" to fight crime, and that his hope is to have Middlesex District Attorney Gerry Leone at the meeting to update us on the status of the investigations. That is enough for me. It shows that he is trying. If he was pulling a former Mayor Howard by doing nothing, I would be upset, but he is not. He’s showing that he is trying, and that is enough for me.
