Man Faces Eight Charges For Alleged Burglary and Victim Assault Saturday

Michael Byrnes of Saugus faces several charges related to an alleged botched vehicle burglary.

A Saugus man was arrested on eight separate charges Saturday afternoon, after a victim alleged he tried to hit him with a car when confronted breaking into his vehicle near 685 Broadway in Malden. 

Michael Byrnes, no age available, was arrested after the victim reported the vehicle's description and plate number to police. 

He was not hurt in the attempted assault.

"(Byrnes) was arrested after he was seen breaking into a van," Police Capt. Thomas Swanson said. "...He was (allegedly) unloading power tools and other equipment out of the vehicle; sometime after that, he was confronted by the owner of the truck." 

Byrnes faces several charges, including receiving stolen property over $250, breaking and entering into a truck for a felony, assault with a dangerous weapon, leaving the scene of property damage, driving with a revoked license, use of a motor vehicle without authority, and assault & battery.

Byrnes was also in possession of lorazepam, a prescription anti-anxiety medication, which added a class E drug possession charge to the list.
