Man Arrested for Elmwood Pharmacy Shooting

Anontio Lacey of Everett allegedly fired a single shot during an argument near Elmwood Pharmacy at Malden Center.

An Everett man was arrested by police early Sunday morning after he allegedly opened fire on an acquaintance near Elmwood Pharmacy.

Anontio Lacey, no age given, was apprehended in Chelsea after police secured a warrant for his arrest, Lt. Det. Marc Gatcomb said. He faces at least one charge of assault with intent to murder.

Police also seized a “large amount” of drugs and cash at the property, Gatcomb said. It was not immediately clear what charges, if any, Lacey would face as a result.

The attack took place near Elmwood Pharmacy near the Malden Center T Stop, and was not a random act, Gatcomb said.

Lacey allegedly pulled up to the victim in his car as he was walking his dog. An argument ensued, during which Lacey allegedly withdrew a handgun. As the victim ran, he said Lacey fired a single shot.

The victim suffered no injuries.

Information on Lacey's court dates were not immediately available Tuesday night.

There are so many shootings in Malden that when I see headlines on line about a shooting, I am not sure if it is just a follow-up about a prior story or it is a new story! But yes this is a new story. So this would make two shootings over the weekend? Or did I miss something?

Every story about a shooting in Malden says "this was not a random act". Is this somehow supposed to make us feel better about living here?

So two shootings this week. They are never random as if this makes it better? Most shootings are not random but random people often get hit. We have been lucky here. I'll say it again violent crime rizing and this Mayor has no plan. Talks a good game but has done nothing to fix it. Forget about all this picture taking stuff and get something done on crime otherwise all the other stuff is for not. Rome is burning and the leadership of this city is lost.

if the freaking police or mayor say not to worry, it was not random I will give up on them. It does not matter if its targeted, these perps are not exactly snipers. When they miss their "target" and hit someone else I wonder what their official response will be

The BIGBT is not happy with this!

How many of these shootings are drug related I wonder.

Not sure Elmwood had anything to do with it, it just happened outside.

Chris.....cmon man. Elmwood pharmacy is a trouble spot. It does'nt take a genius to figure that out. Drive around the area any time of day or night

The Elmwood is not known as the Star Wars Bar aka The Mos Eisley Cantina for no reason
Chris Caesar October 31, 2012 at 10:21 PM
I am familiar with the area. The suspect was allegedly driving by in a car, however, and neither one was a patron at the facility. I also believe it was closed at the time. Just saying.

It is the Geography where these places are. If you are say at Targets Pharmacy to get your scripts you look around you and it seems everything is normal or mostly any pharmacy that is out of the Malden Square Area. But for some reason for years you go to any thats in the Square its a feeling of uneasyness and it shows on the customers faces.

They should have leveled that building when Lenny left. Believe it or not....that used to be a great pharmacy back in the day.

Yes Elmwood has been a freakshow for the last 35 years but this has nothing to do with drug dealers roaming our streets looking to settle a score with some other no good jackwad grew up in that area for years Cedar St./Maple St./Pleasant St. area is full of junkies and shady apartments rooming houses and halfway houses....thats why all the nice west end homes are always victims of robberies yet you never see a cruiser past Summer St. it's a joke....MPD needs to wake up and smell the bacon...no pun intended

Full: Funny you should say that about the area. According to Neil Kinnon, the chair of the Safety Committee, we were shown many graphs and pie charts during his presentation of the new parking sticker tax about to be shoved down our throats saying something completely different. In his demo he says Wards Two and Three have the lowest crime rates and attributes it to the parking restrictions there. Those wards are the "envy of the other wards" due to the low crime happening there. I don't happen to believe it. I believe if we had more police we would have more arrests and the city maybe doesn't want to raise the rates as to make the numbers look worse. Never get any "best city" designations that way. Our Mayor and administration have to wake up and do the job they were elected to do. Until we can clean this city up can we entertain the idea of moving City Hall. Until we get an east side fire station can we entertain the idea of moving City Hall. Safety first before anything else.

it's not a problem with elmwood pharmacy -- it's a problem with the city of malden. used to be if you heard about a shooting in malden, it was an omg moment -- now, just another day in malden!
