Malden Man 'Tested by Lucifer' Charged with Carjacking, Hospitalized

A Malden man was arrested and charged with attempted kidnapping and attempted carjacking earlier this week, after allegedly attempting to steal three vehicles in the parking lot of a Connecticut hospital. 

The Hartford Courant reports that William C. Palma, 21, was admitted to the hospital after "acting irrationally" on a bus near Vernon, Connecticut. 

Police told the paper Palma claimed he was being "tested by Lucifer to find his way home." The man was submitted to nearby Rockville General Hospital for treatment. 

Police later received "several 911 calls" around 7 a.m. that morning, with witnesses reporting Palma attempted to steal several cars: 

After being discharged from Rockville General on Monday morning, police said, he approached a woman in the parking lot and asked for her car keys. When she refused, he went to another woman who was in her car with the doors locked, police said.

Palma pulled on the door handle to try to open the car. He then began banging on the window with his elbow while shouting at the woman to open the door. She drove of and for a brief time Palma held onto the door.

Palma then approached a third car, police said, threw himself onto the hood of the car, and then rolled off.

Palma was reportedly held on $100,000 bail.
