Malden Man Picks Wrong Brothers to Threaten in Alleged Road Rage Incident

The brothers were an off-duty Malden police detective and Massachusetts State Police trooper.

A 41-year-old Malden man allegedly threatened two brothers with an “extremely large knife” Saturday morning during a road rage incident at Salem and Mount Vernon streets in Malden.

Unbeknownst to him, the brothers were an off-duty Malden police detective and Massachusetts State Police trooper.

Sean Sullivan was soon arrested on Main Street in Malden and charged with assault with a dangerous weapon, carrying a dangerous weapon and threats to commit a crime. Further charges could be pending, according to a Malden police release.

After the brothers took a left turn onto Mount Vernon Street, Sullivan, who was driving the opposite direction, allegedly began yelling racial epithets at them and threatened them with the large knife, which had brass knuckles attached to it, police said.

The incident occurred at about 11:30 a.m. Sullivan was scheduled to be arraigned in Malden District Court Monday morning.
