Malden Man Crashes on Route 93 After Police Pursuit

The man's condition was not released Tuesday night.

A 67-year-old Malden man crashed on Route 93 North in Andover Tuesday afternoon after being chased by police.

The man crashed into the center guardrail near Exit 43/Route 133 shortly before 4 p.m.

His name and condition were not released Tuesday night by State Police. However, he needed to be extricated with the Jaws of Life and was taken, via Medflight, to Lawrence General Hospital in Lawrence. Initial reports indicated that he was in traumatic cardiac arrest at the scene.

After the crash, all lanes on Route 93 North were closed for roughly a half hour.

Speeds reached 80 mph during the brief pursuit, as the man drove from guardrail to guardrail. The pursuit was called off before the crash occurred.

Police initially responded for several reports of an erratic driver. The man was driving a 2007 Mercury Milan.
