At 1:10 p.m. Oct. 4, officers responded to the area of Broadway and Central Avenue for a report of a motor vehicle theft in progress, according to police.
"The incident began when police were alerted by the owner of his own stolen car that was observed being occupied in a parking lot on Broadway," reads a police press statement. "The car was reported stolen days earlier."
Officers found the car in question, and while investigating the incident the driver fled, according to police. Police followed the car through multiple streets in Malden before eventually being stopped approaching the Melrose line.
Daniel Vellucci, 42, of Marshall Ave., Malden, was arrested and charged with receiving stolen property. Vellucci was reportedly "known to police," according to the statement.
Coincidentally, Vellucci had been at Malden District Court earlier to check in with his probation officer, according to the statement. Vellucci was held on the new charges, and his probation was revoked by Malden District Court Judge Dominic Paratore, the statement adds.
