Malden Man, 26, Sentenced to Life for Chelsea Double Murder

The double murder occurred in September 2010.

A 26-year-old Malden man was sentenced to life in prison Thursday for a double murder in Chelsea.

Steven Andre gunned down Jenret Appleberry, 26, and Angel Acevedo, 25, in their Chelsea apartment in September 2010, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office. Andre was hanging out with the two victims in the early morning hours of Sept. 6 when he shot both men at close range without warning, authorities said.

A Suffolk Superior Court jury found Andre guilty of two counts of first-degree murder, as well as armed robbery, assault with a dangerous weapon and unlawful possession of a firearm. Andre was sentenced by Judge Christine McEvoy, and he does not have the possibility of parole.

The victims lived on Chester Avenue in Chelsea. Their roommate and his 5-year-old son were also home but asleep. Andre threatened them when they woke up but let them live after the roommate said he would not talk to police, authorities said.

Andre shot Appleberry twice in the head, Acevedo three times in the head. Before leaving the apartment, he took jewelry and a video game system, which police later found in his Malden apartment.
