Stop and Shop Offers Reward for Labor Day Robbery Info

Stop and Shop is offering a monetary award for information leading to charges and arrests related to the  of the grocery store at 88 Charles St. in Malden.

Two men entered the  at approximately 6 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 3, wearing yellow Stop and Shop shirts and baseball caps, with one man creating a diversion, according to an FBI press release issued Thursday. 

During the diversion, the other alleged robber loitered near the manager's office then opened the door, according to the FBI, and then confronted an employee in the office, pointed a handgun at the employee, demanded money and "threatened to severely harm" the employee.

After the employee handed over the money, the alleged robber placed the money in a small blackback pack he was carrying and both suspects left the store and fled in a small grey vehicle onto Canal Street.

Both men are described as approximately 20 to 25 years old, slender builds, with black hair. The two men are possibly black or Hispanic with light complexions.

Malden Police Lt. Det. Marc Gatcomb that "this was a well-thought out plan.

"We feel it wasn't an off-the-cuff type of incident...but at the same time, we've recovered some recent evidence that was left behind and continue to press on investigating," Gatcomb said last week. 

The FBI Violent Crimes Task Force is composed of personnel from the FBI; the , Saugus, Somerville, and Boston Police Departments; and the Massachusetts State Police.
