The 17-year-old arrested in connection with Monday's shooting of another 17-year-old near Warren Street was arraigned in Malden District Court on Tuesday morning, according to the Middlesex District Attorney's Office.
Tyrell Berberena, Jr., 17 of Malden, was arraigned on charges of armed assault with intent to murder, aggravated assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and carrying a loaded firearm without a license, according to a press release from the DA's Office.
Malden District Court Judge Dominic Paratore ordered Berberena held pending a dangerousness hearing scheduled for this Friday.
The 17-year-old victim sustained "serious injuries" in the shooting according to the DA's Office. Malden Patch previously reported he was taken to Mass. General Hospital.
Berberena allegedly when the shooting happened, the DA's Office said.
"This is another tragic example of young people resorting to violence to settle a dispute," Middlesex District Attorney Gerry Leone said in the press release. "We will continue to work with the Malden Police Department, Mayor, and the city’s leadership to address these recent instances of violence, and work to address violence among our young people."
At 10:31 a.m. on Monday, Malden Police responded to reports of a shooting at the intersection of Warren Street and Eastern Avenue, the DA's Office previously said, and police found the victim with an "obvious gunshot wound."
"Authorities do not believe this to have been a random attack," the DA's Office said in Tuesday's press release. "The circumstances remain under investigation."
