7th Defendant Pleads Guilty in Connection to Malden’s Maplewood Organization

The defendant pleaded guilty to three charges Tuesday.

A seventh defendant has pleaded guilty to charges in connection to the Malden-based, drug-trafficking operation known as the Maplewood Organization, according to authorities.

DeAndre West, 23, of Malden, pleaded guilty Tuesday in Middlesex Superior Court in Woburn to the following charges: possession of ammunition, breaking and entering in the daytime with the intent to commit a felony and attempt to commit larceny in a building.

Middlesex Superior Court Judge Beverly Cannone sentenced West to two years in state prison on the ammunition and attempted larceny charges with three years of probation to be served following on the breaking and entering charge, according to the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office.

West was one of 11 defendants arrested last year in connection to the Maplewood Organization. Six others have pleaded guilty; four cases are pending.

According to authorities, the Maplewood Organization trafficked at least 400 pounds of marijuana into Malden from Northern California. The marijuana had a street value of over $1 million, authorities said.
