It is my understanding that if Malden residents do not shovel their sidewalks there is a hefty fine.  The City has even gone as far as to provide us with a video of "how to shovel sidewalks".  Why is it if residents have to find a way to make the sidewalks in front of the property safe, the City does not have the same obligation!  For instance, the side walk going down Cross street abutting the park is not shoveled, not salted, etc.  Why is that?

They need to find revenue sources to pay silly people such as the one who did the video on how to shovel sidewalks. This is a true public service. After all who would hire him/her in the private sector? There really is not much of an incentive to clear public walkways. The politicians do not have to worry about lawsuits too much as there is a cap on how much a city has to pay out on a suit. And then again an injured party generally has a hard time getting a lawyer to sue because the payout is so small. So needless to say there is no real incentive for the city administration to worry about paltry issues such as clearing public walkways.

Dam, I wish I saw that video. if I only knew how to shovel a walkway, then I would not have to make the wife do it

When I received the snow emergency message, again I was reminded that my sidewalks need to be shoveled 36 inches! Why is it cities can run out of money for plowing, salt, etc. but they have no clue that we might also. Also if they are going to post a snow emergency then they have to do something about the cars parked on the streets. Just sayin! Have a good day everyone. 50 degrees coming Friday. Hopefully we won't have to crab about snow for another year!

Well there is a critical shortage of salt for one . My lady freind works for Home Depot and they are not ordering any salt. Luckily I purchased 6 bags before the storms and on my last bag. Sand is the next best thing. %0 degrees is great but when it all melts and refreezes this is what the real problem will be. The city did a great job and even Chief Molis was out there. Its the people who tie up everything with parking there cars in an emergency. I listened on my scanner and the Malden Police were even calling people but no responce so this ties up the whole snow removal.
