Obituary: Rev. Robert P. Amerault, 'Deacon Bob'

Amerault served as deacon at Sacred Heart Parish and St. Joseph Parish of Medford for many years.

Rev. Robert P. "Deacon Bob" Amerault, of Medford, born Nov. 23, 1932, died Wednesday, April 2, 2014 after a brave battle with cancer.

Son of the late William and Ida (Meuse) Amerault. Loving husband of 53 years to the late Dorothy F. (Marshall) Amerault. Loving father of Karen Main and her husband William of Thornton, N.H., Cindy Jalbert and her husband Brian of Medford, Patricia Mahoney and her husband Gerard of Medford, Robert D. Amerault and his wife Diane of Reading and Gail Comeau and her husband Greg of Wilmington. Devoted grandfather of Nicole Jalbert, Katelyn, Courtney and Krista Mahoney, Robert and Amanda Amerault and Timothy Comeau. Brother of Florence Benich and her husband Kenneth of Arizona, Donald Amerault and his wife Lorraine of Medford, Alan Amerault and his wife Karen of Nevada and the late Jeanette Amerault. Brother-in-law to Salvatore and Margaret Yerardi. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

He was an employee of New England Telephone Company for 36 years until he retired in 1992. Bob was ordained a Permanent Deacon in 1980. Bob served as deacon at Sacred Heart Parish and St. Joseph Parish of Medford for many years. He served at Sacred Hearts of Malden until he retired. One of his assignments was the prison ministry as chaplain at Concord State Prison. He was also very involved in the Cursillo and TEC Retreats for many years. Late Veteran of the U.S. Naval Reserve.

Funeral arrangements by Keefe Funeral Home, 5 Chestnut St., Arlington. He will lie in state in St. Raphael Church, 514 High St., Medford, Friday, April 4, 2014, visiting hours from 5-8 p.m. Mass of Christian burial at St. Raphael Church at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 5, 2014. Relatives and friend invited.
