Obituary: Phyllis E. Abatematteo, 54, Longtime Malden Resident

Abatematteo died Friday, April 4.

Phyllis Elena (Blaney) Abatematteo, a longtime resident of Malden, passed away suddenly on Friday, April 4, 2014 in Winchester, N.H.

Born in Peabody on Aug. 2, 1959, she was the daughter of the late Lewis and Grace (Nelson) Blaney. Phyllis was raised in Saugus and educated in Lynn schools. She worked for many years as a certified nursing assistant for the Visiting Nurse’s Assoc. before her retirement.

Phyllis married her longtime partner, Carol A. Abatematteo, on Oct. 19, 2013 after almost 30 years together. Phyllis had a passion for painting, especially oil painting various flower arrangements. A kind hearted woman, Phyllis loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Phyllis is survived by her spouse Carol A. Abatematteo of Malden, her son Robert Bashaw and his wife Amanda of Winchester, N.H., her grandchildren Saige LaPlante, Maxine Tomer, Samantha, Carissa, Caprice and Taye Bashaw, her siblings Sonny Blaney of Peabody, Audrey Blaney of Wakefield, Joyce Studley of Malden and Red Blaney of Florida.

A memorial visitation will be held in the Weir-MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem St., Malden, on Friday, April 11, 2014 from 5-7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Phyllis’ memory may be made to the Hallmark Health VNA and Hospice Inc., 178 Savin St., Ste. 300, Malden, MA 02148.
