Ocie A. Smith, a lifelong resident of Malden, passed away on Thursday, April 24, at the Melrose Wakefield Hospital.
Ocie was born in Malden in 1924, one of five children of Major and Beatrice (Hargraves) Smith. She was raised and graduated from Malden High School in the Class of 1942. After completing high school, she went to work for the John Hancock Insurance Company, where she worked as a secretary. She worked there of over 35 years until her retirement in 1984. In her spare time, she enjoyed knitting and was very skilled at it. She also attended church services at the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Malden and the First Baptist Church of Chelsea.

Funeral services for Ocie will be held on Friday, May 2, at 11:00 a.m. in the Weir-MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem St., Malden, with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in Forest Dale Cemetery.
